CWS Hired for Switchable Smart Film Installation Project at Dulles International Airport

DULLES, Va. – Commercial Window Shield has been retained for a window film project at one of the country’s most well-known airports.

The project, at Dulles International Airport in suburban Washington, D.C., involves a two-step process related to window film removal and window film installation.

Turner Construction, the largest construction company in the U.S., is the general contractor on the project. Turner will be constructing the Capital One Lounge at Dulles, a 9,100 sq. ft. hospitality suite for preferred Capital One credit card holders. Commercial Window Shield will first remove solar control window film on the existing exterior windows in the space Turner will be retrofitting. That work begins this week.

In January, Commercial Window Shield will install more than 2,000 sq. ft. of tinted switchable smart film on the inside of the same exterior windows. The film in controlled by an electrical switch. When the switch is on the glass is clear, like normal glass, for easy visibility for lounge visitors. But on days when there is a glaring sun issue, the switch will be turned off, activating the film’s tinting capabilities and eliminating the harsh glare.

As always, Commercial Window Shield will work closely with other Turner sub-contractors on its scheduling to avoid any conflicts. The company has considerable experience working in the often chaotic environment of international airports. Commercial Window Shield’s previous airport projects include installing 37,500 sq. ft. of security window film at O’Hare International’s United One Terminal and 80,000 sq. ft. of shatter resistant window film at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport’s Arrivals Hall.

Commercial Window Shield is one of the country’s leading installers of all types of window films and have a particular strong history working with some of the country’s top general contractors.  Commercial Window Shield has also completed security, solar control, RF, smart, switchable and privacy window film projects for DAVIS construction, Harvey-Cleary, HITT, Gilbane Building Co., Rand Construction and D Watts Construction.

The company’s major focus in its nearly 40 years has been security and solar control window film installation. Its clients have included the U.S. Capitol, FBI headquarters, the Pentagon, all House of Representative and Library of Congress buildings, Grand Central Terminal, Merrill Lynch headquarters, the United Nations, the Willis [former Sears] Tower, and the Philadelphia and Denver mints.

CWS Completes Fragment Retention Window Film Installation Project For GC

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Commercial Window Shield has completed a fragment retention window film installation project for a Michigan and Florida-based construction company in a Fort Myers building housing a federal government agency.

Owens-Ames-Kimball has been doing a buildout of one floor of a two-story building for client Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives [ATF].   As part of the project, Commercial Window installed a 7-mil security film with a four-sided wet glaze attachment system to the exterior glass. Additionally, the company installed an 8-mil security film with a two-sided mechanical attachment system to the interior windows. The combination of the two security films will provide superior protection to all ATF windows.

Hurricane Ian

The project commenced following Hurricane Ian’s destructive impact on Florida’s west coast, in particular the Fort Meyers area, resulting in numerous challenges.  Commercial Window Shield struggled to find the equipment it needed for the fragment window film installation as well as housing for its installers. But, as usual, the company overcame all the challenges and completed the project on time to the satisfaction of Owens-Ames-Kimball and ATF.

Commercial Window Shield has forged a close working relationship with a number of the country’s leading general contractors, including HITT, Gilbane Building Co., Rand construction, D Watts Construction and DAVIS Construction.
